Rick joined the Strugglers not long after the band's debut performance at the 1968 National Folk Festival in Wellington and has remained a core member to this day.  Famous as a singer in his own right, notably with the Jive Bombers, Rick also contributes washboard, jug and occasional saxophone to the ensemble.  An iconic figure and subject of many urban legends, Rick is the sole Struggler to live away from Wellington, commuting regularly from Auckland where he continues to pursue his own musical career.
